Australasia’s fastest free-legged pacer wins again

After coming up short in the New Years Gift Final (a Listed Classic race) on 14 Jan, Wavethebill (WTB) posted his 4th Australian, and 6th career victory, on 24 Jan 2023 at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

Expertly driven by Robert Morris, WTB found a relatively easy lead from barrier three and dictated the race therein to win by 7 metres. After cruising through the first half in 57.6, WTB finished in style with a quick 54.7 last 800m. Posting a winning time of 1.52.3 with a fair bit in reserve. Watch the replay here.

In speaking with Robert Morris a few days after the race, we learnt that WTB is considerably faster pacing free-legged (without hopples). In fact he is officially Australasia’s fastest ever free-legged pacer. Robert indicated it was possible he will be tried that way again in the future.

WTB next start is set for 31 January. You can see the race details here. Race 8 is the one you’re after.
