Willie Go West wins 2022 Hobart Pacing Cup

… and grabs a track record in the process. Willie Go West justified his hot favourite tag when recording one of the most effortless Ladbrokes Hobart Pacing Cup wins in the history of the race.

The Victorian visitor, driven by Chris Alford, worked to the lead near the 2000m point of the 2579m mobile start and was never headed. Easing down at the line, to win by 20m over two of the best local horses, Cool Water Paddy and Ryley Major.

His 1:57.5 mile rate broke the track record shared by two of the best horses ever to race at Elwick. Blacks A Fake and Flashing Red both went 1:57.6 while winning their heats of the Inter-Dominion in March 2006.

While none of our extended family were represented in this year’s running, Mister Lennox (Changeover - Tuapeka Osprey) scored comfortably in the 2018 event, His second of two group wins, the other being the 2015 Tasmanian Derby.

Mister Lennox’s grand dam is Seamoon - the mother of Wave Runner. He retired in 2019 with a career record of 16 wins and 15 placings for $146k in stakes and a 1.54.3 best mile rate.
