Matt Major cruises to win #3 at Winton
In taking out Heat 4 of the Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes, Matt Major has set himself up for a date with his uncle, Sand Wave, in the $50k Group 2 Final to be held at Ascot Park on Saturday 30 April.
Matt Major’s mother Break Dance, is the second foal of Wave Runner. Today’s win also capped off another piece of family trivia, in that both mother and son have won on the same raceday card, albeit 5 years apart. Break Dance winning the 2017 edition of the Southern Belle Mares Speed Series in a race record 1.53.3. for the 1609m mobile.
After settling 3 back on the outer over the 2400m mobile, Tim Williams made a surprising move to sit parked from the 1100m in the field of six. However Matt Major was unperturbed and he raced away by 4 lengths at the line. Closing sectionals of 56.3 and 27.7 were even more impressive given he finished under a good hold.
