Sand Wave makes a winning return in Gore Cup
Gore Raceway -27 December 2023
A peach of a drive from Nathan Williamson guided Sand Wave to victory in his first start since April 2023; exactly one year since his previous win at the same venue over 1750m on the grass track.
This time it was different, with the “southern tsunami” recording a new track record of 3.18.7 for the 2700m stand on the all weather surface. The previous record was set by Pulp Fiction in 2015 at 3.20.9. You can watch a replay of Sand Wave’s performance here.
Next up for Sand Wave is a tilt at the Group 3, Northern Southland Cup, a 2700m standing start to be held on 17 January.
Bruce Stewart has produced an excellent wider story here with photos, for Southern Harness Racing, if you don’t have time to watch the video.
The win was Sand Wave’s tenth and makes him second equal with Bonnie Joan and WavetheBill, but still behind older sibling Kilowatt Kid on sixteen.
How about that Dad …… did I do a good job?….
