Sand Wave starts 3YO season in style

Briiliant closing sectionals, of 55.3 for the 800m and 27.2 for the 400m, saw Sand Wave out-bounce the hot favourite Beach Ball today in the first heat of the Southern Supremacy Series (2200m mobile) at Invercargill today.

Sand Wave showed early speed to lead from a handy draw, but ended up three back on the inner when the favourite came around to lead at the 1100m mark. Beach Ball sprinted hard from the 600m mark, which left Sand Wave wth 5 lengths back to make up from the turn. However the little fella woundup strongly under the urgings of Nathan Willamson to win going-away.

Sand Wave has developed into a smart horse and we wish his connections well for the final on Saturday 30 April at the same venue. You can watch his latest win here.

Our thanks also to Jonny Turner for the nice write-up in the NZ Standardred Breeders magazine “Breeding Matters” this month, which provides a bit more of Sand Wave’s journey thusfar.
